Connect Days

09 Jun 2026

Outreach School is excited to announce that, from 2026, Outreach Education Outside the Classroom (EOTC) events previously known as Keep in Touch Days (KIT Days) will be renamed Connect Day – Sign, Say, Kōrero.

After an extensive review and consultation process, the word connect was chosen as the day’s link to:

  • Our Curriculums
  • Our Community
  • NZSL
  • Deaf Studies
  • Family/ Whānau

Connect Days are vibrant, inclusive, and engaging events grounded in the principles of the New Zealand Curriculum. Through a distinctive lens, we celebrate and explore Ko Taku Reo’s three Pou - Languages for learning communication and connection, Learning success, and identity and wellbeing, while integrating Deaf Studies and New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL).

These days are designed to deepen understanding of Deaf culture and foster a strong sense of belonging. They offer shared experiences, tuakana/teina relationships, and inspiration from Deaf role models.

Whānau are warmly welcomed to join the journey, helping to build and strengthen community connections as ākonga grow in confidence, communication, and cultural pride.

Resource Teachers of the Deaf organise Connect Days as part of Outreach Services and are for students in mainstream classes and schools.

These events are all classed as Ko Taku Reo EOTC events and are run in accordance with guidance from Education Outdoors New Zealand (EONZ) and Ministry of Education health and safety guidelines.
