Ko Taku Reo Commissioner

In New Zealand, school boards are elected every three years. The election process in 2022 did not result in a new board for Ko Taku Reo, so the Ministry of Education has appointed Michael (Mike) Rondel as Commissioner, effective from 27 September 2022.

As Commissioner, Mike is responsible for all governance matters in the school and holds all the functions, powers and duties of the Board, including:

• Setting the strategic direction and long-term plans for the school in consultation with the school community;
• Monitoring and evaluating student progress and achievement;
• Making sure the school focuses its strategic planning on improving student achievement through high quality teaching and learning programmes;
• Overseeing the management of staff, property, finances, curriculum and administration.
