Te Poari Kaitiaki
Board for Ko Taku Reo
Ko Taku Reo is responsible for providing educational services for New Zealand’s Deaf and hard of hearing children, their families and whānau. We operate from two main campuses in Auckland and Christchurch, but our services are nationwide.
The Board is responsible for:
- Setting the strategic direction and long-term plans for the school in consultation with the school community;
- Monitoring and evaluating student progress and achievement;
- Making sure the school focuses its strategic planning on improving student achievement through high quality teaching and learning programmes;
- Overseeing the management of staff, property, finances, curriculum and administration.
Every three years, a new Board is elected. It is made up of six parent representatives, a staff trustee, two student trustees and the Executive Principal. In addition, up to four trustees may be co-opted to provide something specific, eg. finance, strategy, gender or ethnic balance or to ensure that the views of the Deaf community and Maori are represented on the board.
