Early Years Interprofessional Hui - Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington

01 Apr 2021

Ko Taku Reo Early Years and Deaf Aotearoa First Signs Service hosted 3 successful Hui in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch in the last 2 weeks.

All services that work in the 0-5 space with DHH children were invited to attend and present on their service. We had wonderful attendance from The Hearing House, SCIP, Ministry of Education Learning Support and Advisors on Deaf Children, and local parent groups.

This was an amazing opportunity for us all to listen, watch, learn and understand what each service provider is currently doing in their best practice, and also to build connections with each other. We all realised that we hold the child and family at the centre of all we do, and want the absolute best outcomes for each child and family we work with.

This common purpose helped us to identify some of the challenges in our work, some common themes that we were all finding, and focus on ways to meet these challenges collectively and in collaboration.

Each major centre had a different flavour, and we celebrated this diversity and identified the strengths that we could work with. We now want to spread this further, with similar Hui in other regions, building on the success and momentum of these Hui.

Thanks to all who came, shared their obvious passion, and made collaboration so easy. We now have work to do to continue this collaboration, and will be meeting early in Term 2 to decide how to progress this work.
