Exciting New Resource for Whānau: "Understand Your Child’s Learning"

12 May 2025

Kia ora e te whānau,

The Ministry of Education launched a new parent website called Understand Your Child’s Learning. We’ve taken some time to explore the site and wanted to share it with you. This user-friendly portal is a great tool to help you better understand your child’s learning journey. While designed for mainstream education, it still provides helpful explanations and resources designed to support whānau and students.

At Ko Taku Reo, we follow the New Zealand Curriculum alongside our mainstream partner schools. We adapt the curriculum to meet the needs of our Deaf and Hard of Hearing ākonga and weave our local Deaf Studies curriculum throughout all aspects of teaching and learning.

There are some excellent supports on the website, and we encourage you to explore the following key sections:

  • About the Curriculum and Your Child – A helpful introduction to the New Zealand curriculum and how it supports your child's learning pathway
  • The Hour a Day Initiative – This is a focus on daily literacy learning, and we’re pleased to share that Ko Taku Reo has already implemented this initiative.

We encourage you to take a look and see how this new tool can support you in staying connected with your child’s learning.
