To all staff, parents and whānau, and the wider Deaf community

As I previously communicated, I have been working with the Ministry of Education (the "Ministry") and reporting to them on the progress made with the governance processes in the school.

Following the Ministry completing its recent annual review, I am now able to announce that I have received formal notification that the Ministry feel sufficient progress has been made on governance matters, and as a result, the next natural step for the school would therefore be to proceed to fix a date for an election of a Board. I therefore intend to call an election for a new Board, and at this stage, I expect the election to take place in late October.

The role of Commissioner will end on the day before the new board members take office.

In line with the Ministry's recommendation, the school will be seeking further guidance and support on the election process from the New Zealand School Boards Association.

The school cannot provide any further information at this time, but I remain committed to keeping you fully informed as the election process and timing are confirmed. I will continue to communicate with you to ensure you are kept up to date throughout this process, including the process for submitting nominations for board positions.
