Notice regarding "DeafGo"
21 Oct 2026
Kia ora e te whānau,
We want to make you aware of a website called DeafGo (www.deafgo.net), which has recently come up in conversation among some of our students.
DeafGo is a random video chat platform that connects Deaf people from around the world using sign language. While this may seem like a positive opportunity for connection, it also carries important online safety risks.
Users are randomly connected with strangers, meaning young people may be exposed to inappropriate content, unwanted interactions, or adults with bad intentions. We are taking steps to restrict access to this website on school devices and networks. However, we encourage whānau to be aware of its use on personal devices at home.
How you can help
- Talk with your children about DeafGo and whether they have heard of or used it.
- Remind them not to share personal information or images with strangers online.
- Encourage them to tell a trusted adult if they experience anything that makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
- Consider monitoring access to random video chat websites, particularly during unsupervised hours.
We recognise the importance of opportunities for our students to connect with other Deaf people, develop their language and strengthen their sense of identity and belonging. Our priority is ensuring these connections happen safely.
Most importantly, please reassure your children that they can speak to a trusted adult about any concerning online experiences without fear of getting into trouble. If you have any concerns or would like support, please contact your child's teacher or school leader.
Thank you for working alongside us to keep our students safe.
Ngā mihi nui,
