School Board Update - Term 4, 2025

19 Nov 2025

Hello,

My name is Victoria.

The new board had their first meeting last Thursday, 13 November, and we all flew to Auckland for an all-day meeting. We decided it was a good time to get to know everyone on the board and participate in whanaungatanga, as we are a new team.

We then had a guest trainer from the New Zealand School Board Association. This association supports all school boards throughout New Zealand. The training included school board responsibilities and roles, processes to follow, what to do and what not to do. It was a very valuable training.

The board then discussed and chose a chairperson. They picked me, which I'm honoured and thankful for.

I want to let you know about the recent process in electing the new board. There were originally six people elected as board members. However, for personal reasons, one person had to withdraw.
This means that the board now has one vacancy. We, as a board, discussed potential options for this vacancy. Before making a decision, we'll gather all the information and research our options. Having time to weigh the pros and cons of each option. The board will then convene again to make a decision. We will inform you of this decision soon.

We, as a new board, are excited and motivated, looking forward to working together and towards our goal of excellence for our deaf children and the future.
