The following is an update regarding the Ko Taku Reo Provision located at Linden Primary School in Wellington.

At the end of last year, the classroom teacher resigned. We undertook a recruitment process to find a new teacher. We put in place arrangements to staff the Provision class with teachers seconded from other areas of the school, as a short-term plan. Unfortunately, the recruitment process was unsuccessful in securing a teacher for the class.

The current short-term staffing arrangements for the class are not in the best interests of the students or their learning outcomes. The process of recruiting for this role will take between 5 and 13 weeks. For these reasons, we have made the difficult decision to pause the class. The pause will be in effect from the beginning of Term 2 until the end of Term 4, 2026. During this time, we will continue recruiting for this role.

Ko Taku Reo is working collaboratively with the Ministry of Education to ensure that all students and their families are being supported into alternative classes/arrangements during this time.
