Out and about

• Nominations is underway for our school board student elections – great to see our tamariki taking part in student leadership
• Our senior students from Hillmorton and Hagley Provisions joined a panel discussion at the Inspiring Futures event, alongside Dr Stephanie Cawthon (Executive Director of the National Disability Center for Student Success), Amy Geue (Ko Taku Reo - Executive Principal), Alexandrea Gill (Deaf consultant, sensitivity reader, and author of She's Ready: A Deaf Woman's Journey from the Fringe to the Center), Noelani Ritchie (Deaf youth and ski instructor at Mt Hutt) and Charlotte Clowes (Final year masters - Audiologist. Prior career in retail management and business analysis). All wonderful Deaf role models
• Our leadership team is busy preparing to share our kaupapa at the Leaders in Deaf Education conference in Sydney

Kōrero

• A real highlight was that our first Deaf Leadership cohort had the special opportunity to meet with Dr Stephanie Cawthon
• We held a warm pōwhiri on Monday to welcome Dr Cawthon and two Ministry of Education representatives onto our site
• Our residential students hosted a lovely dinner and Q&A, treating everyone to a delicious hangi they made themselves – ka pai, tamariki!
• Leadership enjoyed a visit to Wharenui, including watching their Kapa Haka practice, such wonderful energy

Behind the scenes

• Our Executive Team spent two days in Christchurch working through the feedback received on our Strategic Plan – a big thank you to all our whānau and community members who took the time to share your thoughts; they mean a great deal to us

Partnership and advocacy

• A successful Deaf Youth Hui was held in Christchurch
• We were proud to host Dr Stephanie Cawthon and Ministry of Education representatives, continuing to build strong partnerships that support our tamariki
• Looking ahead to sharing our work on the world stage at the Sydney conference
