Implementation Plan's Progress in Term 1

  • Ensure we have an environment where learners and staff are safe and where Deaf culture is honoured, taught, and nurtured.

    1. Engagement strategy implemented connections made with community groups.
    2. Enrolled School parents and direct Outreach parents surveyed.
    3. New Professional Learning and Development (PLD) and plan for areas that need more PLD.
    4. Staff wellbeing survey constructed; this will be run in Term 2.
  • Learners will demonstrate consistent and sustained language and literacy development aligned with the learning progressions of the New Zealand Curriculum. At-risk learners will receive targeted support in partnership with staff and whānau.

    1. Language Screening trials are ready to begin for NZSL and Spoken Language.
    2. A working group is currently creating resources to support teachers to use a variety of effective teaching strategies which will improve language acquisition.
    3. Staff continue to receive NZSL lessons, our school is the recipient of a substantive MOE contract to improve our teachers’ NZSL skills.
    4. Scoping discussions being held about the potential roles of Language Models in our school.
  • Learners experience equity in access to high-quality teaching experiences regardless of location or educational pathway, which embeds Deaf studies and te ao Māori.

    1. Attendance in the Enrolled School has almost doubled since Term 4.
    2. We have an attendance strategy.
    3. Planning templates for maths have been trialled and ready to use next term.
    4. Teacher Aides received training in a maths intervention programme to accelerate learning.
    5. Enrolled Teachers received training about accelerating reading.
    6. Curriculum resource teachers are creating many new resources to supplement our programmes.
