Kōrero

  • Our Preschool Residential Course welcomed two families on site at the Christchurch Campus, and it was a week to remember. Jo and Fraser shared this lovely note afterwards:

"Just wanted to say a huge thank you for everything this week. We are incredibly grateful for all the help, advice, information and care we have been given over the week from the whole team. We've been given tools to help Hunter's future, and we're already looking forward to coming back. Thank you all again for an absolutely amazing opportunity for Hunter and us. The whole team is incredible." – Jo and Fraser

  • Check out the Deaf Studies Research post where members of our team contributed to a discussion around creating and checking subject signs.

Behind the scenes

  • Our Educational Interpreters spent their Staff Only Day in a workshop facilitated by Sign Tree, covering Dynamic Equivalence: Analysis and Practice, identifying professional development priorities, and discussing the educational interpreting ecosystem. Courtney and Cass (CHC EIs) said it was some of the best learning they've had – a fantastic outcome for practice across our provisions.
  • A new teacher has been appointed for the Linden provision for 2027. Further details and an introduction will follow closer to the time.

Partnership and advocacy

  • We met with Whaikaha, Ministry of Disabled People, to discuss our needs as part of the NZSL strategy.
